Satori is a term for "enlightenment". Literally, it means understanding. The Satori breath is a type of consciously connected breathing that facilitates a significant escalation of an elevated spiritual awareness.Numerous university conducted experiments have been completed over the last twenty years to attempt to measure the efficiency of consciously connected breathing as either a compliment or replacement for traditional psychotherapy. Results of these tests were mixed.
However, the mixed results do not lessen the benefits of the breathing practice. Rather they reinforce the benefits. Satori breathing was not designed to treat what are perceived to be psychological disturbances. Included in the scope of most of these studies was the investigation into whether or not the breathing process offered a spiritual benefit. The breath was designed and should be used as a tool to expand the consciousness and elevate the spiritual awarenesses of the people using the breath in a regular, well conducted practice. The measurement of the spiritual effects of the consciously connected breathing, incorporated into these same studies, showed dramatic gains in spiritual awareness and expansion of the consciousness.
It is regularly reported by participants that they return to deep impression event in early life, including reliving their birth, and in some cases, even to return to what are often identified as "past lives" that have served as a foundation for current life events. While it cannot be documented that the participants are actually revisiting past lives, it can be substantiated that there are clear and definitive spiritual benefits from the consciously connected breath.
The Sotori Breath Workshop is an event that may last three to six hours (depending on the number of participants). At the beginning of the workshop, instruction is provided in how to conduct the breath to achieve the maximum benefit and "grounding exercises" to bring the participants into an energy stable position. Then we breath, lying back to the floor for an extended period of time. Music is played to assist the participants in emotionally moving through the vibrational ranges of each individual major Chakra, beginning with the Root Chakra.
Upon completing the breathing session, which usually lasts from 45 to 90 minitues, each participant will participate in a session to create a Mandala that is representative of their experience during the breathing exercise. Finally, the day will conclude with a session of sharing and discussion among the participants and guides to learn from each other and compare notes from each others experiences.
Supervision is provided throughout the workshop, as well as guidance and information resources of what that individual encounters may represent, or value they may have to each participant. This is a healing session. The whole purpose of these workshops is to aid the participants in their personal healing and personal spiritual growth.
Caution: If you have significant health problems, a heart condition, or are pregnant, it is recommended that you obtain clearance from your physician to participate in this workshop. While the session consists only of a process of natural breathing, it sometimes may be physically strenuous.
Several popular and published therapists with a spiritual understanding and familiarity with the breath recommend a series of experiences (with supervision) over a 12 month period. Colin Tipping, author and creator of Radical Forgiveness, recommends a program ranging from 10 to 20 sessions during this period. Your needs may vary.
